On Saturday, October 18th, from 7.30 to 10.30 pm, the Sanctuary of TRINITY-ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH located at 427 Bloor St. West, will host a concert of folk/roots music entitled SONGS OF PEACE AND PROTEST. The evening will feature six topnotch singer-songwriters: James Gordon, Mick Lane, Faith Nolan, Evalyn Parry, Tony Quarrington, and Len Wallace. The show is jointly sponsored by TSP’s Centre for Faith, Justice, and the Arts, and by Environmental Defence (ED), which is Canada’s most effective environmental action organization. It challenges and inspires change in government, business, and people, to ensure a green, healthier, and prosperous life for all. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door,  from the church office (416 922 8435 #23), or from the performers. For further information call 416 532 4354.

As per the title theme, songs during the evening will speak to various issues of social and climate justice and oil dependency: plastic water-bottles, the Alberta tarsands and Enbridge’s Line nine pipeline, plus the proposed nuclear waste-dump at Kincardine.

The event will also pay tribute to one of the folk music community greats, the late Rick Fielding, in the tenth year since his passing, by concluding the concert with a group rendition of his impassioned song “Voices of Struggle.”

Folk icon Garnet Rogers regrets that he couldn’t take part, but is generously donating a signed set of his recordings as a door-prize.
